Guernsey County Republican Club Monthly Minutes

7:02 PM – President Robert Morris called the meeting to order.  Vice President Sheila Cochran delivered the invocation and President Morris led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance. President Morris welcomed the guests that were visiting the club. Bob asked the club to congratulate Treasurer Nelson Roe on the birth of his second child.

Treasurer Roe brought the club up to date on their general finances and the scholarship fund.

Secretary Michael Segrest, having made the minutes available prior to the meeting, presented them for approval. The motion passed unanimously at 7:06 PM.

Final plans for the Reagan Day Picnic were set with the event being held Tuesday September 5 at the Cambridge City Park Large Pavilion. Clearance Mingo had agreed to be the main speaker.

The club was also informed that member Brain Faucett had passed away.

President Morris then invited any elected officials that were present to speak:

City Auditor Suellen Johnson stated that she had just finished the audit and it went well. She asked that we also excuse Mayor Tom Orr, who was at the public informational hearing on the new Guernsey County Power Station.

Bob Heinton delivered a message from Commissioners Skip Gardner and Dave Wilson, who also sent their apologies for being tardy, as they were also at the power station meeting.

Board of elections Director Sandra Miller informed the club that filings for the November election had been completed and there are 116 candidates, 23 local issues, and 1 local option.

President Morris then called upon the scholarship committee to give a report. Lisa Groh spoke about moves the committee were making to provide opportunities for trade and technical school, as well as other changes the committee was looking into.

President Morris then reminded the club that the fair was coming up and we would need volunteers to cover times at the booth.

Vice President Cochran then took a moment to remind the club about the upcoming Americans for Prosperity Call to Action, the Moral Case for Fossil Fuels.

The featured speaker was State Representative Andy Thompson, who spoke at length about legislation going through the state house and took a number of questions from members about some of their concerns.

The meeting closed and adjourned at 8:17 PM.
