January 20, 2015 Club Meeting
GUERNSEY COUNTY REPUBLICAN CLUB MEETING ON JANUARY 20, 2015
President, Robert Morris, welcomed all those present to the meeting. Following the Pledge of Allegiance, Nancy Umberger gave the invocation.
The secretary’s report for the December event had been posted on the Web site www.guernseygop.com. Gayle Heinton presented the treasurer’s report including the scholarship fund balance.
Suellen Johnson presented the Chairman’s report. At the meeting of the Republican Central Committee on Saturday, January 17, 2015, Tom Orr was elected chairman; Darrell Fawcett will be vice-chairman; Suellen Johnson will remain secretary; and Debbie McKee will be treasurer. The Lincoln Day Dinner will be Friday, February 13 at the Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center. U.S. Senator Rob Portman will give the keynote address. Sign up now with Suellen (740- 432-5039) to attend the dinner that begins at 5:30.
New Probate/Juvenile Court Judge, David Bennett, expressed his gratitude to everyone who helped in his campaign. He then gave a donation to the scholarship fund that will close out his campaign fund.
During the President’s report Robert reminded all that Dues for 2015 can be paid now. Because of the Lincoln Day Dinner in February there will not be a monthly meeting. Many new people were in attendance so he asked for them to introduce themselves. Then David Haas with Heritage Action for America told what they are promoting with the new U. S. Congress. They are beginning a Sentinel Hub to keep people informed.
Sheila Cochran introduced the evening’s speaker, Steve A. Stechschulte. He is the Ohio State Director for Convention of States. The U. S. Constitution provides for two ways to amend the constitution. The states can begin the process to amend it. The Convention of States is working in all 50 states so each state has the same wording for what the future Constitutional Convention will be limited to handling. Four states have completed the process for selecting commissioners to go to the Constitutional Convention. Ohio will soon be considering this proposal.
To conclude the meeting, Robert gave the prayer.
The next meeting of the Republican Club will be Tuesday, March 17.
