Guernsey County Republican Club Monthly Minutes
President: Robert Morris called the meeting to order.
Invocation was delivered by VP Sheila Cochran.
President Morris: led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Treasurer: Michael Segrest gave the Treasurers Report for October 2019 with the Membership Account Balance at $2357.35 and the Scholarship Account balance is at $1,972.64, the Total Balance is $4329.99, with the treasurer presented them for approval.
Secretary: Sandra Miller made the August minutes available prior to the meeting by e-mail, on the back table and on the club website; she presented them for approval. The motion was tabled due to there not being a quorum of members.
Elected Officials in attendance:
Fourth Ward Councilman Jack Marlin Informed the members that he has been working very hard in helping to get individuals to work off fines for the Municipal Court.
Commissioner Gardner let the club members know that the county has purchased the Higgin’s Shopping Center with the help of the Title Funds from the Clerk of Courts Office. The Title Department and the Prosecutors Office will be in the Center. Mr. Gardner reminded everyone that the Censes is coming up, and that the power plant is moving forward.
Paul Sherry added that the Power Plant has built up Fritter Road and will be updating the bridge soon. Mr. Sherry also gave an update on all of the paving of roads in the county.
Executive Committee: Vice President Darrel Fawcett stated that there have not been any meetings for the Executive or Central Committees.
President: Robert Morris let the members know that the T-Shirts and Hats went very well at the Fair. There are T-Shirts and just a few hats left.
Robert also wanted to give a special acknowledgement to those that went above and beyond helping with the setting up, taking down and by working fair booth this year was Ed Freeze, Jack Hardesy, Darrel Fawcett. Those that worked the fair booth were Ernest Gardner, Tony Brown, Mike Nelson, Colleen Wheatly, Suellen Johnson, Linsey Angler, Jack Marlin, Jeff and Linda Leonard, Sara Blue, Sheila Cochran and Libby Bates.
The Chinese Auction raised $420.00 at the Reagan Day Picnic this year.
Robert informed The Christmas Party will be on December 17, 2019 at Mr. Lee’s Restaurant in the large room in back.
Vice President: Sheila Cochran introduced guest speaker State Representative Don Jones, of the 95th. District.
Representative Jones gave the members his background as being a teacher for 23 years. Rep. Jones went into detail as how he will be able to help the Education Committee since he has worked as an educator. There are several House Bills that are being worked on like HB # 132 and HB#9, and working on the teachers supply tax credit, the state report cards, school funding.
Representative Jones went through several other bills that the House is working on and answered several questions from the members.
President Morris gave the benediction
President Morris adjourned the meeting.
