Guernsey County Republican Club Monthly Minutes

 

7:01 PM – President Robert Morris called the meeting to order.  Vice President Sheila Cochran delivered the invocation and President Morris led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance. President Morris welcomed the many guests that were in attendance for our featured speaker.

Secretary Michael Segrest submitted his resignation, which was accepted by President Morris. Along with the previous vacancy in the Treasurers position, nominations were no open to fill the vacant seats. Gayle Heinton nominated Sandra Miller for Secretary and Michael Segrest for Treasurer. Seeing no other nominations, Commissioner Skip Gardner motioned to close the nominations with Gayle seconding. The motion passed unanimously. Both candidates were elected without opposition.

Treasurer Segrest indicated that there was a signup now available for next month’s Christmas Party and made club members aware of the ways they could add their name.

President Morris asked club members to sign a card that was provided to send condolences to the family of the late Lee Scott. The Scott family asked that all gifts be made payable to Hospice. After some discussion, Bob Heinton motioned to donate $100 in the clubs name, which Mayor Tom Orr seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

Comments from elected officials and Central Committee were made brief to allow more time for our speaker. Mayor Orr did inform the club that they had begun preparing for the 2018 Lincoln Day Dinner, which would be in February or March. County Auditor Tony Brown also announced he would be seeking reelection.

Vice President Sheila Cochran was then asked to introduce Mike Gibbons, candidate for the Republican nomination for United States Senate for the 2018 race. Mr. Gibbons spoke at length about his vision and what he would like to accomplish as a U.S. Senator. Mr. Gibbons took several questions from the audience.

The meeting closed and adjourned at 8:27 PM.
